Being burnt out sucks.

When you're burnt out, the first thing to go out the window is the feeling of agency and creativity. Then years can go by before you've actually had authentic joyful play and creativity time to yourself.

If getting out of the "after work doomscrolling spiral" isn't working, you most likely need restoration  and playfulness.

This is a guided recovery series to get your life back off your phone and back into whimsy and creativity through play.

What You’ll Actually Do

Over three live sessions, you’ll learn to use the science of adult play to make you feel alive again.

  • Week 1: Restore Energy

Learn about the science of play throughout our lifespan and how we can use it to restore our energy. This session will include creative play activities and a unique tool to learn how to be get better at surrendering to play.

  • Week 2: Dissolve Self Judgement

Work on understanding your inner critic and how to gently work with it rather than against it.

  • Week 3: Build a Sustainable Creative Practice

You will find out your unique play history and play personality and use that information to craft a personalized play practice for yourself after the workshop series ends.

Who This Is For:

  • The high-functioning perfectionist who’s got a gnarly inner critic.

  • The professional who can’t switch off the productivity voice and who's burnt out af.

  • The creative who’s sick of producing to sell.

  • The social media addict who's been ignoring their inner child's needs.

Why People Love Creative Play

I really appreciate this play workshop. There are few to no places for adults to play and it's amazing that Renee has created a safe space for this exploration. It really is an inward experience as equally as it is connecting with others. I noticed how it helped me transform somatically in my body and how I was able to express my authenticity in a welcoming space. Really excited to attend more workshops!

I have felt stuck, alone, sad, and at a loss for what to do or where to meet people. This class gave me directions (but not limits) on what to do. Which helped my ND brain. It gave me a safe place to express myself and Renee did a great job reminding us that there are no rules. We can move, and think and share in the way that we want to. It was a really nice experience that I am super grateful for.

I really enjoyed the ugly to beautiful drawing activity. It helped my mindset shift easily in just a short amount of time. Will definitely be using that one in the future!

The anticipation of what we were going to experience was delightful! And starting with word - first thought best thought - was helpful to observe my own brain trying to be "right" or "acceptable" and to "get into" just being present. I enjoyed the scribbling with my body the most, and the body doubeing while drawing so so much! It also got me so excited to continue Play Breaks with the Play Jar! 100% would recommend!!!

  • What kinds of activities will we do?

We do a series of "playscriptions" or creative play activities that use a wide range of arts modalities such as visual arts (like doodling, making ugly art, creating scultpures), writing (like blackout poetry, fairytales, and storytelling), movement, improv games, and problem solving activities. Think of it like a range of multimodal creativity activities.

  • Do I have to be creative?

Many people in this series haven’t touched their creativity in years- some since childhood. You don’t need a current hobby, any talent, or special supplies — play is about the process of creating, which is a natural human ability that increases meaning in one's life.

  • What if I feel silly?

Good — that’s the point. Play feels uncomfortable at first because adults are trained to judge themselves. But learning to play as an adult requires repetition and practice to get into a comfortable flow.

  • Who's leading the series?

Renee Bryant, founder of Play Rx. She's spent over a decade helping people reconnect with creativity and play. She taught arts, improv, poetry and theater at a classical liberal arts school and is obsessed with teaching through a method called the Socratic method based on Socrates' famous line of questioning to find truth (rather than telling people what is true).

  • Do I have to be on camera?

Yes, for this series, you do need to have your cameras on. It's very difficult for cohort members to play with a turned off screen. If you absolutely have to keep your camera off for a bit that's fine!

  • How much does it cost?

$130 for the full 3-week live series. Includes one year of recording  replays.

  • What do I need to bring?

Yourself, a notebook, and anything you have lying around to doodle/write/play with (colorful fun items recommended). No fancy tools, no art degree required.
